Paige has childhood asthma
and she needs your help
NC
(NC)—The delivery room resonated with a healthy cry when Paige was born. She immediately became the star of her family, as every baby does!
But when she was three weeks old, an anxious young couple arrived in emergency - their little star was having problems breathing. The trend continued: Weekly, Paige either saw her family doctor or paid a visit to the Emergency Ward. Ear infections, fevers, coughs, vomiting, and a gurgling sound while struggling to breathe were her constant companions.
"I started researching asthma," says Paige's mom, Lisa, "because her breathing problems were more than common colds." Lisa contacted The Lung Association, and after consultation with health care professionals who are certified asthma educators, and following a visit to a Pediatrician, a diagnoses of asthma was made.
Sadly, Paige isn't alone. Over 2.5 million Canadians suffer from asthma. It is five months since Paige's diagnosis. Her parents are controlling her asthma because they can now recognize and avoid her asthma triggers. They are also able to give her asthma medications properly so they do the most good. Paige's mom feels more confident now that she is armed with the proper tools and resources. "I am thankful to The Lung Association for all the education, knowledge, understanding and tremendous support that they have provided to our family." Left untreated, Paige's asthma may have resulted in life-long health consequences.
The Lung Association is Canada's oldest health charity, with a 103-year history of helping families fight lung disease. The Lung Association began using Christmas Seals in 1927 to raise money to combat tuberculosis. Today, your Christmas Seal donation funds vital medical research, public education and programs that improve respiratory health in communities across Canada.
The Lung Association is dedicated to improving your lung health. Because one in five Canadians is living with a serious lung disease, we specialize in giving you advice and information about asthma, breathing difficulty due to lung illness, air quality, and respiratory research. Please support our Christmas Seal Campaign, because, when you can't breathe, nothing else matters. Call our toll-free number 1-888-566-5864 (LUNG) or visit us at www.lung.ca.
